Service: The organisation was easy to work with and the whole booking went smoothly, with good communication between us.
Product: The positives: the sea view, which, from the balcony, was absolutely sensational; the sound of the mighty sea; two great, child-friendly paddling beaches 15 and 30 min away respectively by car; a mini-supermarket two min walk from the townhouse; a fish restaurant above the mini-supermarket; having mostly Portuguese holiday makers around us; very relaxed atmosphere; takeaways available from the golf reception area; friendly staff throughout; some sunshine to remember. The negatives: the townhouse - there were two sets of staggered townhouses. The one we stayed in was next to a townhouse whose living room and balcony was next to one of our two bedrooms. The people next door were Portuguese who owned their townhouse. Portuguese have a typical Mediterranean life style in that they are up until very late, often until 2 am, including children and sleeping on the balcony despite the often chilly conditions. We were therefore disturbed for most of our 10 night stay; mostly windy, rainy, misty and cold weather throughout the stay (from third week in August); ice-cold swimming pool, as it wasn't heated; beach for surfers only and not swimming as the current is too strong; half hour journeys by car to any supermarket; very expensive use of the indoor/outdoor swimming pools at Marriott Hotel (10 min by car), who charged up to 50 Euros for two adults and one child, including swim caps (can`t go without one) for one day`s stay; the kids' club at the same Marriott Hotel's, which wasn't exactly next door and user friendly; the area is suitable for people who want to play golf, and not aimed towards children (we had a 7-year old with absolutely no other children to play with); and no commercial shops as a tourist to go browsing in. As you can, in our case, the negatives outweighs the positives. For someone else, maybe it's the other way, especially if you are a golfer or a dedicated surfer.
Product Comment: Well, obviously a mixed review - and a very helpful one too. I know the venue well and the positives ring true for me also. However, we are very interested to read about the aspects of your holiday that were not so good. I think you have been very unfortunate to find yourself next to a nocturnal family. It isn't acceptable to be making noise that will disturb other guests. Had it been highlighted to the resort reception I am sure they would have intervened. You were also unlucky with the weather; I checked a weather observations website I use and there were 8 days in August over 30 degrees and 1 day over 100F. The coast can pick up sea mist though particularly in the mornings. The local beach is a surfing beach and for families we recommend the two that you found - Baleal and Obidos Lagoon. I agree it's not inexpensive and a car is certainly essential. I also agree it would be better if the Beachfront condominium pool was heated - that's something we will feedback to the resort. Your comments are very helpful and give us plenty to think about - thank you again for taking the time to write.
The positives: - the sea view, which, from the balcony, was absolutely sensational; - the sound of the mighty sea; - two fantastic and child-friendly paddling beaches 15 and 30 min away respectively by car; - a handy mini-supermarket two min walk from the townhouse; - a fish restaurant above the mini-supermarket; - having mostly Portuguese holiday makers around us; - very relaxed atmosphere; - takeaways available from the golf reception area; - friendly staff throughout; - lovely landscapes and towns; - some sunshine to remember. The negatives: - the townhouse - the one we stayed in was next to a privately owned, Portuguese townhouse, whose living room and balcony was next to one of our two bedrooms. As Portuguese, with typical Mediterranean lifestyles, they were up until late at night, often until 2 am. The children slept outside on the balcony until past midnight, despite the often chilly conditions, then moved inside. We were therefore disturbed for 7 nights out of 10, when they finally left. We contacted the reception, who tried to help, but due to it being a private property, could do nothing; - due to the unusually cold weather, which included rain and mist due to its location (from third week in August), it made for a very chilly sunshine holiday; - the swimming pool was unheated and ice-cold; - the beautiful beach was for surfers only and not for swimmers, as the current is way too strong; - it's a half hour journey by car to any nearby supermarket; - the area's restaurants were very expensive with mostly golf players; - the nearby Marriott Hotel's indoor/outdoor swimming pools cost up to 50 Euros for a day's use for two adults and one child (you have to use or buy a swim cap as well); - the Marriott Hotel's kids club wasn't exactly next door and therefore not user friendly; - the area is mostly for golf players, and not aimed towards children (we had a 7-year old with absolutely no other children to play with); - no tourist shops, which some might prefer. As you can see, in our case, the negatives outweighs the positives. For someone else, maybe it's the other way round, especially if you are a golfer or a dedicated surfer. Then it's pretty perfect.
Service: The house was very nice but dome things need attention - particularly the outside table is disintegrating!
There should be a sun shade for the balconies.
Rather limited supply of serving bowls in the kitchen.
Product: As previous needs attention in some areas
Service: very approachable and helpful
